Cherry Lane Elementary school art teacher, Nicole Mackenzie, has worked to instill a genuine love and appreciation of art with her students. For the past seven years, this week’s #MountieSuperstarhas used her creativity and talent to inspire her student’s imaginations to soar to new heights, whether it’s incorporating new technologies into her lessons, teaching the science of ceramics, or organizing her Valentine’s for Veterans project. Nicole was instrumental in bringing Google to the District to test their new Augmented Reality program with elementary school students. She is a team player and is constantly working with her colleagues throughout the District to make connections through the curriculum and STEAM-related projects. Nicole is a dynamic educator, and her classroom is truly a joy to visit and to spend time in.
“Since day one, I’ve taught life lessons in the Cherry Lane art room,” notes Nicole. “It’s not just an art class. Students are learning to solve their own problems, use new technologies, and learn real-life skills using a variety of materials. This is a safe room for risk-taking and challenges. It’s a safe place to fail.” She adds, “I really am just a small piece of this Cherry Lane puzzle. This is such an incredible place to work. It’s a well-oiled machine that offers our students amazing learning opportunities.” #MountiePride #SuffernCentral
