For fifteen years, Millie Vega, this week’s #MountieSuperstar, has been a part of the Suffern Central School District as a teacher at Sloatsburg Elementary School. Currently a fifth-grade teacher, she’s also worked with first and second-grade students throughout her time in the District. Millie is patient and caring, a team player, and a selfless teacher, often volunteering her time at community events, including Girls on the Run, which she began at Sloatsburg a few years ago.
“I love spending my days with minds that are resilient, hungry for learning, and full of joy,” Millie said when asked what she loves about her job. “I began a teaching career to change the world, yet I feel my students change my world year after year.”
Next year, Millie will have the opportunity to serve as a Literacy Coach for the District. She will work not only in Sloatsburg but across all the elementary schools, as she collaborates with teachers to support improving instruction and student performance in literacy.
“I am most excited to work side by side with teachers to support all the great work they are currently doing and are aspiring to do. I truly believe that together we can make a bigger difference for the students of our District.” #MountiePride #SuffernCentral
