On May 15, the 2018-19 Suffern Central School budget was approved with 2049 ‘yes’ votes or 77.20% of the vote. The budget totals $139,914,833 and reflects a 1.92% budget-to-budget increase and a 2.00% tax levy increase.
Seventy-nine percent of voters cast their ballots in favor of Proposition 2, which allows the District to move forward with the construction of security vestibules at RP Connor Elementary school, Viola Elementary School, and Suffern High School. It also allows for safety upgrades at Suffern Middle School including a new fire alarm system and repairing the stadium steps.
“We would like to thank the community for their support again this year,” said Superintendent Dr. Douglas Adams. “Through the community’s passage of the budget and Proposition 2, we can continue to provide outstanding opportunities, services, and security for all our students and staff next year.”
In addition, Donald Cairns, Angus Mackenzie, and Melissa Reimer were all elected to the Board of Education. These seats carry a three-year term which begins July 1, 2018, and concludes June 30, 2021.
