Beth Boehning’s therapeutic support class at Suffern Middle School received a visit from a furry friend! Therapy dog Maisy spent the morning snuggling up to students and showing off her tricks. Students asked questions about her and learned quite a few new facts – including that dogs cannot eat grapes or raisins!
There are many benefits to having a therapy dog in the classroom. These trained dogs have been shown to increase students’ self-esteem and focus and lift the mood of the classroom, provoking laughter and play.
I think the kids would agree! It was a fun morning for all.
