District News

On Thursday we held our first community information and feedback session to discuss reopening strategies for the fall. While we are still awaiting guidance from the state on reopening parameters, it was great to begin a dialogue with our families and have interactive conversations about how they are feeling around school openings, learning options and more. Dr. Lisa Castaldo, Assistant Superintendent for PPS, shared a presentation that included the many facets of the plan and a timeline we are following.

Two more virtual parent/community member meetings have been scheduled for Tuesday, July 14 at 4pm and Thursday, July 23 at 7pm. If you are interested in attending, please email reopeningteam@sufferncentral.org to receive the link to join. If you cannot make these meetings, but would like to provide feedback, please also send an email to that address with your thoughts.

Working together and having an open dialogue will go far as the 2020-21 school year approaches. Thank you to all who attended yesterday and we look forward to continuing these conversations in the weeks to come.

School Reopening Update - 8/7/20

Governor Andrew Cuomo today announced that schools across New York State will be allowed to reopen and must work with the SED and DOH as to how that will occur. He also announced a series of next steps for districts to take between now and August 21, including posting separately their remote learning, COVID testing and contract tracing plans, in addition to holding discussions with parents and staff.  With this new information, the Suffern Central School District will take a few days to align its state-mandated reopening plans with Governor Cuomo's directives. Please watch for updates on school day scheduling, instruction, transportation and other critical district operations in the coming days as well as dates for parent and staff discussions to be held.
