Capital Bond Referendum
Suffern Central School District is exploring a possible capital bond referendum this December. Throughout the past year, the District has been working on plans and organizing options to present to the Board of Education and taxpayers.
The proposed work includes new safe and secure entrances at each building, upgraded learning spaces, athletic fields and performing arts areas, a new traffic pattern at Suffern High School, and general infrastructure improvements needed in the district's older buildings. Dr. Gundersen has presented to the Board of Education a building-by-building breakdown, including floor plans and proposed changes, followed by an estimated project cost of approximately $73.5 million, organized by priority.
Separately, the district is exploring construction of a field house on the high school property, estimated at an additional $18.7 million. This would be considered a distinct decision from the $73.5 million capital project. In addition to expanding athletic and event space, the field house is projected to generate future revenue for the district.
