Mountie Minds Advisory Council

Our January meeting was exciting and informative. The District has been working since the summer to educate ourselves on the future of Artificial Intelligence and how it fits in at school. This presentation featured our Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum and Instruction, Lee Weber, and a few teachers who have been exploring and using AI tools in and out of the classroom. 

The November meeting featured a look at our secondary schools, Suffern Middle School and Suffern High School. With presentations from both Dr. Andrew Trust and Dr. Paul Adler, attendees learned more about the current initiatives and future planning for grades 6-12.

We kicked off a new school year and our first meeting with a discussion about the restructuring of our elementary schools. We presented the group with the various scenarios being explored and the logistics around moving from five buildings to four. We asked for feedback on a variety of topics that will then be used as we develop the plans for the change. 

During our last meeting of the 22-23 school year, we reviewed data from the recent survey conducted by the DM Group, an organization the District enlisted to help with the restructuring process. We then spent time talking about the future of the District, what excites and concerns those in attendance and explored data around enrollment. 

Our February Mountie Minds Advisory Council focused on the things valued, wanted, and needed at Suffern Central School District. Based on statistics gathered by our consulting partners, the DM Group, we examined what Suffern Central has to offer its students and families and what else we could do to provide excellence in educating our students.
