Coronavirus Updates

April 2, 2020

Dear Suffern Central Families,
I hope that you remain safe and healthy as we continue to grapple with the impact of this unprecedented viral outbreak as a community.

As we move into April, I hope to end the uncertainty surrounding our scheduled Spring Recess. In short, to comply with Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order 202.11, the Suffern Central spring break that was scheduled from April 8 through April 17 has been cancelled. These will now be days of remote instruction – including the religious holidays.

The executive order is clear that to avoid losing state aid, remote instruction must continue during these days. We understand that this schedule change may not be welcome news to many.  We also recognize that this break isn’t just about vacation days, but includes religious holidays observed by many in our community. As always, but especially in these times, our beliefs are central in many of our lives. In Suffern Central, we respect each student’s, family’s and staff member’s religious practices.  Please make decisions for yourself and your family that allow you to observe your faith in the way that meets your needs, and respects others decisions as well.

I am so proud of our community for supporting one another during this time.  Our faculty continues to adapt, innovate and promote our student’s learning, in many cases while supporting their own families at home.   Our students have responded with focus, creativity and humor. Our support staff continues to supply over 1000 meals a day, and this week distributed over 200 more devices, bringing our total of loaned devices to over 700.  Our volunteers and community partners continue to support our families. Through continued flexibility and patience, I trust that our resilience, connections and sense of community will help us get through this trying time.

For those families receiving food deliveries, the schedule will be changing.  Today’s delivery will include meals for today and tomorrow.  Starting next week, meals will be delivered on Monday and Thursday.  Monday’s delivery will include meals for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  Thursday’s delivery will include meals for Thursday and Friday. This allows us to meet the needs of our families, while reducing interactions for our food service and delivery staff. If you would like to sign up for meals during the closure, please fill out this form: https://forms.gle/eNEwQwfiabLbeHmx5

Be well and take care,

Lisa Weber
