Coronavirus Updates

Family Supports During the Covid 19 Crisis

May 1, 2020

Dear Suffern Central Families,

During today’s press conference, Gov. Cuomo announced the closure of our school buildings through the end of the school year with remote learning continuing through June.  While we recognize this decision is made in the best interests of the health and safety of our community, we are disappointed that we will not have the chance this year to reconnect in person and participate in many of our end-of-year rituals.  Particularly for our seniors, we share your disappointment and are committed to doing what we can to provide a meaningful and memorable experience for you.

The timing of this announcement provides us the opportunity to plan for these rituals and other logistical elements relating to the end of the year. As our plans become more definitive around graduation and moving up ceremonies, Kindergarten registration, locker clean out, pickup of belongings, etc., we will share those details. We will be hosting another Facebook Live chat late next week, so stay tuned for more information. Please continue to use the communications@sufferncentral.org email for questions or concerns.

We recognize the impact the reality of this situation has had on our students, families, staff and entire community.  We will continue to provide food service delivery and clinical support to those in need, and encourage you to utilize our family supports page on our website:  https://www.sufferncentral.org/family-supports-during-covid-19-crisis. Please contact your child’s teacher, counselor, principal or call 845-608-6008 to request clinical support.

We are also working towards a plan of re-entry for the fall and have assembled a district-wide committee which will look at the many factors that will need to be considered.

We are so proud of the efforts of our staff and the creative ways we connect during this time.  We will continue to reach out virtually and in socially distant ways and look forward to the time when we can all be together again.

Be well and enjoy your weekend,

Lisa Weber

School Reopening Update - 8/7/20

Governor Andrew Cuomo today announced that schools across New York State will be allowed to reopen and must work with the SED and DOH as to how that will occur. He also announced a series of next steps for districts to take between now and August 21, including posting separately their remote learning, COVID testing and contract tracing plans, in addition to holding discussions with parents and staff.  With this new information, the Suffern Central School District will take a few days to align its state-mandated reopening plans with Governor Cuomo's directives. Please watch for updates on school day scheduling, instruction, transportation and other critical district operations in the coming days as well as dates for parent and staff discussions to be held.

________
