Middle School
At Suffern Middle School, the school counselor has a multitude of roles and responsibilities that include working with students, faculty and staff, administration, and parents. The school counselor promotes and encourages social, emotional, personal, academic growth and development of all SMS students.
We strive to support and enhance our students' self-management, social awareness and sense of belonging in our beautifully diverse community. We serve as the academic advisors for all students and work to prepare young learners for the transition to high school.
The counseling department is staffed by three school counselors. Each counselor is assigned to a grade level as follows:
6th Grade: Ms. Kristin Schmidt
7th Grade: Mrs. Liann Gutierrez
8th Grade: Mrs. Cindy Miller
The counselors are supported by two secretaries who also aid families with registration and withdrawal. Both Ms. Gina Rossi and Ms. Joann LaFemina can be reached at 845-357-7400.
