Fifty years ago this fall, Montebello Elementary School opened its doors to students in the Suffern Central School District. Today, the entire school gathered to celebrate its long-standing history and success of educating our youngest Mounties. Former students, teachers and administrators all arrived to share their favorite stories and memories of their time here. After an awesome introduction by the Suffern Marching Band Drum Line, Principal Ivey reflected on the meaning of this day. Acting Superintendent Weber cut the ceremonial ribbon and we were all treated to the sweet voices of the students singing the Montebello school song. As an added bonus, the fifth-grade class sang the classic, “Build Me Up Buttercup,” which was a hit in the summer of 1969.
A special thank you to the staff at Montebello for their work making this day happen, especially our music teacher Ms. Ezratty, the Montebello PTA for their tireless and continued support of the school and its initiatives, Mr. Schwartz and Mr. Blasbalg for coordinating the drum line and the Suffern Central Board of Education. This was definitely a day to remember!
