Closings & Delays
The decision to close or delay school opening is typically made by 5:30 am. Notifications are made via our Mass Notification tool which informs parents through phone, email, and text. Additionally, the information is on our website, announced through our mobile app, and posted on our official social media channels.
Closing or delay determinations are based solely on conditions within the district and may vary between neighboring districts. Parents are advised to update contact information with the main office of their child’s school building to ensure their receipt of timely notifications.
In the event that weather forecasts predict worsening conditions during a school day in progress, the Superintendent of Schools may decide to close early. Notifications of an early dismissal will be made through the same channels as delays and closings.
The Suffern Central School District understands that many families must make alternate arrangements for their children when school is delayed, canceled, or dismissed early. Student safety is the district’s top priority. In preparation for inclement conditions, the district urges parents to develop a family plan for addressing childcare issues should the weather impact regular school hours.
