On Tuesday night, June 4, the administration and the Board of Education gathered to celebrate the retirement of five women who’ve served the District in a variety of capacities for many years. Surrounded by peers, family, and friends, each retiree was honored with kind words and a gift for their service to Suffern Central.
The reception featured delicious food by the SMS cafeteria staff and music by the Suffern High School orchestra. Viola Elementary School Principal, Christine Druss recognized first-grade teacher, Randi Elberg, special education teacher Jennifer McTigue and teaching assistant Sindy Rosenberg all of whom she called terrific, radiant and humble while sharing thoughts from their students. RP Connor Principal Kelly Benadi had the pleasure of honoring long-time reading specialist Cindy McKeon, whom she called one of the greatest artists of the teaching profession. And Human Resources assistant, Joan Nugent-Murphy spoke of secretary Kathy Salmon’s love of her job and support of those around her.
Also retiring this year, but not present last night, are Suffern High School English teacher Deb Frey and Information Services Specialist Pam Abate.
