On Monday, May 20, the Suffern High School Social Studies Department and the students of the National History Honor Society hosted their first-ever Suffern Celebrates Civics event for our elementary school students.

To say the event was fabulous is an understatement. The amount of time and effort was noticeable from the unique posters and decorations on the walls to the amount of knowledge these students had when it came to presidents, monuments and historical trivia. They engaged the younger students in learning history in fun ways and made them feel welcome and at home!

Kids were seen guessing locations of historical buildings, making log cabins out of pretzels and icing, sporting famous presidential mustaches, imagining themselves as president and so much more! There was even a vote for which candy was better – M&M’s or Skittles. Of course, the chocolate won!

We can’t wait to see what next year has in store for everyone! A special thank you to the SHS Social Studies Chair, Kim Cleary whose vision made this event possible and the teachers and staff of the District for their support. #MountiePride #PassingDownThePride#SuffernCentral
