On Friday, January 3, we celebrated National Women in Sports Day (WISD) by featuring many of our female sports teams. A tradition that began by Casie Morgan, class of 2014, this event, now in its fourth year, was created to recognize the accomplishments of Suffern’s female athletic teams and encourage our younger female students to get involved in athletics and join in our District’s athletic programs as they reach middle school and high school.
From learning how to serve a volleyball to participating in obstacle courses, each female sports team created a station in the gym and ran mini-activities to showcase their sports. Thank you to all our coaches and athletes from soccer, cross country/track, field hockey, crew, swim & dive, tennis, volleyball, gymnastics, basketball, softball, bowling, lacrosse, cheer, golf and ski who supported this endeavor and found creative ways to work with these young #Mounties.
Students who completed all of the sports activities also received a free t-shirt, designed by Suffern Middle School student Rylee DelDuca. Attendees were then encouraged to stay and cheer on the varsity girls basketball team, who defeated Mamaroneck High School 44 -28.
A special thank you to Elizabeth Borczyk, Stacey Samora, Kristin Schmidt, Sue Pariot and Andy Guccione for coordinating this event, Stacey Lum for the great photos and Matthew Jones for the awesome jumbotron videos.
