We are pleased to announce that Suffern Central School District has implemented a new system to help parents and students learn about transportation issues and bus delays in real-time.

Using Remind, a communication platform, and app, the District is now able to reach parents and students on their phones in a quick and efficient manner. The app provides one-way communication allowing families to opt-in to receive messages for specific schools, using a code received from their school administration.

These alerts will be activated and sent via the app when we are aware of a 10 minute (or more) delay of the bus. The District will still utilize our ConnectEd email and phone outreach if there is a 15 minute (or more) delay. The alert system is categorized by each school. By signing up for the school(s) transportation alert, subscribers will be notified when any bus for that building is delayed.

“We hope this app will alleviate some of the frustration around students not knowing if their bus is late, or when it will arrive,” said Lisa Weber, Acting Superintendent of Schools. “In the past, we’ve only used the ConnectEd email/phone alert system, which reaches parents. With Remind, we now have a way to reach students directly and in real-time. Many of our teachers and coaches already use the Remind app as a way to stay in touch with students and parents. It has been successful for them, and as we implement the process on a District level, we are looking for the same level of success.”

Instructions for Creating a Remind Account:
Visit or download the free iOS or Android app. Click on Sign up. You will need to provide a full name, email address, and password. From there, choose your role (parent or student) and follow the instructions to start using Remind.

You will receive a unique school code via email this week. Please share that code with your student(s) if they have a phone. To join that school’s alert system, open the app and click “Join a class.” Enter the class code provided by your school. Turn on push notifications to be alerted when a new message is posted.

For any questions or concerns, please reach out to the main office of your child(ren)’s school.
