Ten years ago, in partnership with the PTA, Suffern Middle School installed a Peace Pole in front of the school as a way to inspire, uplift and awaken the community and remind us all to think, speak and act in the spirit of peace and harmony.

This past Friday, on International Peace Day, students in Mrs. Jaffe’s sixth-grade class visited the Peace Pole to reflect on what peace means and how they contribute to peace in the world. Seeing the message “May Peace Prevail on Earth” in different languages on each side of the pole sparked thought and conversation, as they headed back to the classroom to learn more.

It’s estimated that there are more than 250,000 Peace Poles in every country of the world dedicated as monuments of peace.
