History National Honor Society

  • In the words of Jackie Robinson…”A life is not important except in the impact it has on others.”

Our hope as members of the History Honor Society is to develop our knowledge of the past in order to shape our paths in the future.

The History Honor Society came into existence at Suffern High School in 2001.  The objective was to recognize the achievements of students who excelled in the fields of the social sciences.  Our goal was to create an organization that tries to make history come alive.  We strive to organize enjoyable activities that have roots in community service and citizenship.

Our organization has an impressive historyIn 2004, Suffern’s chapter became a charter member of the National History Club. The NHC has founded history club chapters at high schools and middle schools in 43 states, and there are over 10,000 student members. The NHC inspires its members to participate in local and national programs, and create their own projects and activities. The NHC also provides chapters with resources and services that will help them increase the activity and impact of their history club. In 2007, Suffern was named the National History Club Outstanding Chapter of the Year.  Each year, the NHC awards scholarships and awards which have been bestowed on Suffern Students.  In 2018, Suffern's chapter was once again named Outstanding Chapter.

The History Honor Society plans and hosts a variety of civic-related events and activities for the district, including visiting elementary schools to teach civic-related material and hosts a Suffern Celebrates Civics carnival each May.
