Student Identification Process for ENL Services and Support
Programs and Services: In Suffern Central, we provide English as a New Language (ENL) programs that use strategies for English language development with native language support so that students develop language and content knowledge in English.
Student Identification: Suffern Central School District screens incoming students according to the NYS Part 154 Regulations. A Home Language Questionnaire is given at initial enrollment, followed by a family interview, student interview and NYSITELL (New York State Identification Test for English Language Learners) assessment to determine the student’s level of proficiency in English.
